Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs

January 13, 2014 by gravitybread Filed Under: Books and Mealtime, Fun Food Books

Cloudy_with_a_Chance_of_Meatballs_(book)What would life be like if food fell from the sky? That is what it’s like in the town of Chewandswallow. There was no rain or snow in this town, it just rained juice and soup.  Everyone was happy and content in this town until the weather took a turn for the worse. There was a day that only soggy brussel sprouts fell from the sky. The amounts of food were way too large and the town couldn’t keep up with it.  Therefore, the townspeople had to leave the town and migrate somewhere else where food did not fall from the sky.

I love this book because it can stir up many conversations at your dinner table. For example, ask your child, “What would you want fall from the sky for breakfast?” “Would you like to live in the town of Chewandswallow?”, etc.

Carryover Activities: Have your child draw a picture of their interpretation of Chewandswallow. They can draw the food coming down from the  sky any way they want. Ask your child how they would feel living in the town of Chewandswallow. Watch the movie, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.
